From Addiction to Authorship: My Journey of Change
My life took an unexpected turn on 3 December 2013, the day I tried drugs for the first time. What began as curiosity slowly developed into addiction, pulling me away from the person I knew I could be. For years, I lived in a cycle of escape, denial and survival, until I realised that real strength comes from facing your truth, not running from it.
In 2016, I made the most important decision of my life: to enter rehabilitation. It was not easy, but it was necessary. Rehab taught me discipline, self-awareness and, most importantly, hope. It gave me the tools to rebuild my life with purpose rather than fear. Since then, my journey has transformed into creativity. I have published four books, each reflecting growth, reflection and resilience, with another one currently in the pipeline. One of these,Nifs li Kwazi Kissirni, became a bestseller, selling out in just three weeks. Due to overwhelming demand, a second publication was released and sold out again, making a third print run necessary.Writing became my therapy — a way to turn pain into meaning and experience into impact. I give talks at schools and youth centres, also in churches. I wrote newspaper articles, opinions and on portals. I also did a tv programme called ‘Gramma’ on TVM which passed to the second edition as it gathered a good crowd.
My story is not about perfection, but about progress. If my journey proves anything, it is that no matter where you start, change is always possible when you choose yourself. I feel it is a mission to help others and to inspire the people who are still suffering which in turn, they also remind me where I can go again if I do not keep my maintenance alive
